Onyx awarded the contract for waste collection and urban cleaning for Camden, London (Great Britain)
Onyx, the Waste Management Division of Vivendi Environnement, has just been awarded the contract for household and commercial waste collection and urban cleaning for the borough of Camden, London.
Lasting for seven years, the contract will start in April 2003. In order to provide a response to the local residents and to meet government objectives for increasing the rate of recycling in Great Britain, Onyx will work in close collaboration with the Camden municipality to implement additional means for the development of selective collection and waste recycling, including:
- A new fleet of "clean" collection and street cleansing vehicles (powered by natural gas),
- An extension of the street sweeping areas,
- Improving and increasing the existing household waste recycling sites in the borough,
- Winter maintenance.
Thanks to the experience gained over the last years with the different London boroughs, Onyx will also be able to design solutions matching the Camden residents" expectations based on our tried and tested know-how.
Following the recent contracts with the Westminster borough (200,000 inhabitants and 1 million visitors a day), Portsmouth and East Sussex, this is the fourth major contract won by Onyx with local authorities in the United Kingdom in less than six months, thus strengthening our public-private partnerships together with the development of integrated solutions.
Onyx, the Waste Management Division of Vivendi Environnement, is one of the world leaders in waste management. With 71,000 employees in 48 countries, Onyx had turnover of 5.9 billion Euros in 2001.
