10.6.2005: Meldung: Veolia Environnement SA: Onyx begins household waste and recycling collection for the town of Blackpool, UK
Onyx has just commenced a contract for the collection of household, commercial and bulky waste as well as helping to develop a range of recycling services for the town of Blackpool, on the north west coast of England.
The seven-year, ¤35-million contract covers the service for 68,000 households, whose 140,000 residents produce approximately 83,000 tons of waste a year.
Blackpool Council believes the new contract will enhance collection systems for householders as well as businesses, giving them greater opportunities to recycle and therefore help improve recycling rates throughout the resort, in keeping with Government directives. The goal for Blackpool is to increase its recycling from the current rate of 18% to 40% by 2010.
In addition to collecting household, commercial, bulky and clinical waste, Onyx plans to expand door-to-door collection of various recyclables and to manage the drop-off collection centers for selective sorting.
Based on this remit and working in partnership with Blackpool Council, Onyx intends to develop a comprehensive door to-door collection service by:
? distributing color coded wheeled bins for waste and recyclables;
? providing alternate weekly collection of residual and green waste;
? introducing alternate weekly collection services for dry recyclable waste, including paper, glass, metal cans and plastics.
Onyx, the Waste Management Division of Veolia Environnement, is the only operator working with local authorities and private companies that covers all segments of the waste market (solid, liquid, non-hazardous industrial and hazardous waste).
