Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. announced today that Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., a major regional supermarket chain and one of the largest private companies in the United States, is now offering Fair Trade Certified((TM)) organic coffees under the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters(R) and Newman"s Own(R) Organics brands. Wegmans" introduction of these coffees in 55 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey was timed to kick off the celebration of National Organic Harvest Month in September.
Wegmans was founded in 1915 as family run grocery store in Rochester, NY. Today the company, which has been recognized by Fortune as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work for in America," provides consumers with one of the best selections of products offered by any supermarket chain. The chain also offers customers more "stores within a store" than most competitors, including specialized areas like Market Cafes, bakeries, patisseries, delis, photo labs, pharmacies, floral shops, cosmetics, and more. Now an excellent selection of Fair Trade certified organic coffees from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Newman"s Own Organics is available in the Nature"s Marketplace area in 55 Wegmans locations. While all of the stores will carry these coffees in 10 and 12-oz. packages, many will also offer the coffees in self-serve bulk displays.
Charlie Gardner, Category Merchant, Nature"s Marketplace at Wegmans said, "It is a pleasure to offer our customers such a broad selection of high quality Fair Trade certified organic coffees from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Newman"s Own Organics. We are very happy to offer these wonderful tasting coffees that are making a positive difference for small-scale coffee farmers and for the environment. I believe our customers will really enjoy these coffees in the cup, and even more, will appreciate knowing their purchases are effecting a real change where these coffees are grown."
Don Barberio, Vice President, Supermarket Channel at Green Mountain Coffee said, "It is gratifying to work with Wegmans, an organization that has been recognized repeatedly for its excellence as a retailer, for its commitment to community service, and for its excellence as an employer.
