11.12.2003: Meldung: Starbucks Promotes Jim Alling to Executive Vice President

Starbucks Coffee Company announced today that Jim Alling, senior vice president, North America Marketing, has been promoted to the position of executive vice president, Starbucks Business and Operations - United States. In this newly defined role, Alling will oversee all U.S. operations (both company-operated and licensed), Marketing, Foodservice, Seattle Coffee Company businesses, Tazo and Store Development. Alling will report to Jim Donald, president, North America. "Jim"s extensive experience in the retail and food industry combined with his successful track record in his many key leadership roles at Starbucks make him the ideal person for this role," said Jim Donald, Starbucks president, North America. "He has an exceptionally strong knowledge of the food industry and has earned the trust and respect of everyone in the Starbucks organization. I look forward to Jim"s leadership during our continued growth, innovation and customer service in Starbucks U.S. business."

Alling joined Starbucks in September 1997 as senior vice president, Grocery and became senior vice president, Specialty Sales and Marketing in December 1998. In August 1999, he was named senior vice president, Business Alliances, where he helped build the business unit by developing numerous agreements with leaders in the foodservice, grocery and travel industries. Alling was named senior vice president, North America Retail Operations in May 2001. In April 2003, Alling was named senior vice president, North America Marketing and given leadership responsibilities for integrating Seattle Coffee Company, comprised of the Seattle"s Best Coffee (SBC) and Torrefazione Italia (TI) brands, into Starbucks operations. In this position, Alling was responsible for growing and distinguishing Starbucks, SBC and TI brands in the grocery and foodservice channels and managing the retail operations of SBC and TI stores. Alling had an extensive background and valuable experience in the grocery business prior to joining Starbucks. After a lengthy career with Nestle USA, Alling was well prepared to help distinguish Starbucks in the grocery channel. At Nestle, Alling was vice president and general manager of several divisions, including ground coffee.
