12.12.2002 Meldung: Vestas: All wind turbines at Horns Rev in operation (engl.)

All 80 wind turbines in Elsam"s new offshore wind farm at Horns Rev have now been put into operation. In future the wind farm will produce approx. 2% of the Danish power consumption.

On Wednesday December 11 at 14.00 the last of the 80 wind turbines in Elsam"s new wind farm at Horns Rev was put into operation. The 80 wind turbines are placed in the North Sea 14-20 km off the coast.

After commissioning the wind turbines must undergo an acceptance test, testing the functionality of the wind turbines separately and in groups before the wind turbines are finally taken over by Elsam"s and put into commercial operation. This will take place at the beginning of 2003.

The wind turbines are supplied and erected by Vestas. "We are pleased that we were given the opportunity for participating in this challenging project and supplying the wind turbines to our long-standing customer Elsam. We also want to emphasize the good and reliable co-operation throughout the entire planning, supply and commissioning phase", says Carl Gustav Nielsen, Vestas.

The offshore wind farm is unique, partly due to its size, but also due to its location under good offshore conditions in the North Sea. The wind turbines have been erected during the summer of 2002, and the first wind turbine was put into operation on July 29, 2002.

"We are pleased that all the wind turbines have now been put into operation. The Horns Rev project proves it possible to exploit the potential for offshore wind turbines - not only in Denmark but also abroad. Compared to the time schedule we must admit that the commissioning has been delayed by one month. The commissioning of the Vestas wind turbines took longer than anticipated and has been affected by a cable damage, but Vestas has worked hard to restrict the delay", says Flemming Thomsen, Manager of Project Evaluation, Elsam.

The wind farm is capable of producing 160 MW at full operation, and annually the wind farm is expected to produce approx. 600,000,000 kWh, corresponding to approx. 2% of the total Danish power consumption.
