DigiPlex selects innovative turnkey backup power system from Texas manufacturer

AUSTIN, Texas, May 16 -- Active Power, Inc., inventor and manufacturer of the most reliable and energy-efficient critical power systems in the world, today announced an order from DigiPlex Norway AS, which owns and operates DigiPlex Centre, Norway"s leading independent, high-security datacenter. Active Power will provide a four megawatt turnkey power system that includes its flywheel-based uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a diesel system, switchgear and related components, services and installation. The system will be shipped and installed in the second and third quarters of this year and will be used to provide increased power protection for the DigiPlex Centre.

"The DigiPlex Centre protects critical data in an incredibly secure environment for the "who"s who" in various markets, including telecommunications, government and security," said Dag Gjetring, DigiPlex Site Manager. "It"s important we have technology in place that seamlessly handles power fluctuations, sags and outages as our customers demand it. We were impressed with the integrated approach Active Power proposed and the exceptional levels of operating efficiency in their UPS."

Active Power worked closely with consultant Aldwyns, a specialist London-based engineering design firm, who specified the project and ultimately drove the selection of Active Power"s technology. The turnkey solution includes specialized equipment for increasing power availability, a redundant UPS, cooling and controls. The bundle will also include the company"s GenSTART technology, which provides redundant starting power for the generators, significantly increasing system availability.

"Downtime isn"t an option for the DigiPlex Centre," said Jim Murphy, vice president of Sales, EMEA and APAC for Active Power. "Our flywheel-based system, better by design than conventional UPS and battery systems, brings inherent reliability and proven performance to the data center floor. We are thrilled the customer selected our power dense system. Not only will they reap the benefits of improved system performance, but they are also deploying a highly efficient, environmentally-friendly system at the same time."

DigiPlex Norway AS is a privately owned Norwegian company owned by The Carlyle Group. They are registered to EN ISO 9001:2000 and provide secure facilities for outsourcers and systems integrators, governmental organizations, telecommunications companies, security players and major corporations. The organization works regularly with companies that seek a highly secure, independent environment for either frontline or backup IT housing.
