19.5.2005: Meldung: Carmanah launches next-generation solar-powered LED bus stop

Carmanah Technologies Inc., is pleased to announce the product launch of the second generation of its popular i-STOP(TM) solar-powered LED-illuminated transit stop.

The original i-STOP(TM) - in use by over 80 transit agencies and winner of the 2004 Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) Award - is redesigned for 2005 with the following new features for enhanced performance and accessibility:

- Brighter illumination with new, higher-intensity LEDs (light-emitting
diodes)
- Braille and improved tactile lettering for the visually impaired
- Large-diameter, LED-illuminated, stainless steel activation buttons
- Accessible design with full ADA compliance

"Our world-leading solution for renewable energy transit lighting is now even better," states Art Aylesworth, Carmanah"s CEO. "We have made the next- generation i-STOP(TM) fully ADA compliant to further the goal of improving the transit experience for all users."

The new i-STOP(TM) offers the same safety, security and convenience features as the original:

- i-SIGNAL(TM) bus signalling beacon with one-mile visibility
- Security downlighting
- LED edge-lit illuminated schedule

Carmanah"s solar-powered technology is a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective improvement to transit infrastructure than traditional lighting. Self-contained solar power eliminates expensive installation, digging, cable hookup and ongoing electrical costs. LEDs with a lifespan of 100,000 hours harnessed to Carmanah"s Automatic Light Control and proprietary MicroSource(TM) power management provide maintenance-free operation for at least five years in virtually any climate.

The 6,000 transit agencies and one million bus stops in North America represent a significant market opportunity for Carmanah. Capital expenditures on U.S. transit facilities exceed $7 billion annually.

Several of North America"s top 20 transit agencies already use the i-STOP(TM): the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, Chicago"s PACE Suburban Bus Division, and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
