19.8.2003: Meldung: Active Power Inc.: Order for Airport Runway Lighting UPS System
Monday August 18, 3:44 pm ET
AUSTIN, Texas-- Aug. 18, 2003--Active Power (Nasdaq:ACPW - News), a leading manufacturer of battery-free power quality products, received an order for a 750 kVA uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system that will be used to protect runway lights at Vigo Airport in Spain. Shipment of this system is scheduled for the current month. This represents the third order in as many quarters for a UPS system that will protect runway lights, and underscores the increasing awareness of the effectiveness of Active Power"s CleanSource® technology in handling the power quality requirements at critical airport operations. Due to the inherent nature of runway lighting systems, which tend to have a relatively poor power factor, Active Power"s battery-free UPS is ideally suited for this application. With its ability to perform power factor correction to loads with power factors as low as 0.4, this system allows an airport to seamlessly switch its runway lights over to generator, with no net effect to air traffic. Additionally, Active Power"s UPS has a small footprint, advanced harmonics cancellation capabilities, operates in temperatures ranging from 0 degrees to 40 degrees C, and does not require an oversized backup generator. Active Power"s products are a logical choice for airports that demand a seamless transfer to alternate power during a utility disturbance.
"We"re very excited about this relatively new application of our battery-free CleanSource technology, which serves to reiterate our position that battery-based backup systems simply do not work well in a number of industries," said Joe Pinkerton, chairman and CEO of Active Power.
With over 300 installations worldwide and more than 6 million hours of field operation, Active Power"s products are a proven alternative to problematic battery-based UPS systems. The Active Power UPS product family is the broadest battery-free UPS line in the world, now ranging from 65 kVA to 1200 kVA. Recently recognized by Frost & Sullivan for its ability to satisfy customer needs with new and innovative products, Active Power continues to rapidly expand its product line to address the needs of new market segments and geographies.
