22.6.2006: Meldung: Abengoa obtains GRI "In Accordance" Classification
This classification has been awarded following the review of Abengoa"s Annual Report which has been prepared pursuant to the 2002 GRI Guide, Global Reporting Initiative. The report contains a far-reaching and balanced description of the company"s activities in the economic, environmental and social sectors.
The level of international development achieved by Abengoa, following more than seventy years of business history, goes hand-in-hand with its commitment to ensuring economic and social progress while contributing to the conservation of the environment, and this is upheld by what has become to be known as Corporate Social Responsibility.
Of note among the social activities conducted by Abengoa during the year is the Focus-Abengoa Scholarship Holder program, in collaboration with the majority of the Spanish and some foreign universities, the Baroque and Technology University Schools, in collaboration with the Menendez Pelayo University, the Javier Benjumea Puigcerver Research Prize, with the University of Seville, or the "Javier Benjumea Economic and Business Ethics" course, with Universidad Pontifica de Comillas.
The Focus-Abengoa Foundation has become a valuable tool within the company"s culture. Not only is it capable of attending to the occupational and human development of Abengoa"s workforce, but it also connects with the new sensitivities of society as a whole and manages, in short, intangible assets the impact of which is to the advantage of and is disseminated in the business values and goals themselves. Established by Abengoa in 1982, its mission is to put the company"s social action policy into practice. This it does in a non-profit-making manner with objectives that are of general interest focused on social, educational, cultural, scientific, and technological research and development activities.
Abengoa is a technological company that applies innovative solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructures, environment and energy sectors. It is a listed company with treasury stock in excess of 1,600 million euro and is present in more than seventy countries where it operates with its five business units: Solar, Bioenergy, Environmental Services, Information Technologies, and Industrial Engineering and Construction.
