Active Power also announced that a major credit union serving the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States has selected CoolAir UPS to protect operations in its newly-constructed data center. Both the award and the customer win further validate Active Power"s innovative approach to addressing the data center uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market.
"It is an honor to be awarded the product of the year by SearchDataCenter.com, a respected authority on and resource for data center management," said Jim Clishem, President and CEO of Active Power. "It is even better when customers vote with their dollars and entrust their critical operations to us, as this forward-thinking financial institution did."
The customer selected CoolAir UPS because it addresses the power and cooling needs of today"s data centers as a highly reliable, battery-free alternative. In addition, the customer took advantage of Active Power"s unique CoolAir usage plan that includes lease of the product, full warranty, and service plan for up to 10 years. The system will be shipped in the first quarter and installed in a new data center facility in New Jersey, built to help support an expansion for this nearly 60-year-old credit union.
CoolAir UPS was chosen as the Gold winner from a number of new products submitted to SearchDataCenter.com for consideration in four categories. The awards were judged by the editors of TechTarget"s SearchDataCenter.com, in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts, analysts, and consultants. Winners were selected based on the following criteria: innovation, performance, value, functionality, ease of use/manageability, and ease of integration into existing environments.
Based on Active Power"s patented Thermal and Compressed Air Storage (TACAS) technology, CoolAir UPS provides uninterrupted power and backup cooling for critical equipment and processes. The system uses thermal energy and compressed air to spin a small expansion turbine to provide 85 kW of backup power for up to 15 minutes for three-phase UPS applications.
CoolAir UPS is an alternative means to provide highly reliable uninterrupted power, requiring far less maintenance over its 20-year life than traditional battery-based UPS solutions. CoolAir UPS is the only UPS system on the market today which produces cool air during system discharge. This in turn mitigates heat build-up in data centers when air conditioning systems become unavailable due to power disruptions.
