TRUMBULL, Conn., April 30 / Oxford Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: OHP - News) today announced that it is offering its members access to consultative services for complementary and alternative care through the Carol and Morton Siegler Center for Integrative Medicine. The Siegler Center is part of the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, in Livingston, N.J., an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.
"It is important for physicians to be aware of the complementary and alternative medicine therapies that their patients are receiving or using on their own, such as acupuncture and herbal supplements," said James Dillard, M.D., medical director of Oxford"s complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) program. "Through this program, Oxford members have the flexibility and choice to integrate conventional medicine and alternative therapies safely and effectively."
Depending on their specific health concerns and treatment preferences, members can meet with medical doctors and CAM practitioners either individually or in consultation to discuss integrating both therapies into their care plans. Integrating both therapies ensures that members receive the most compatible and appropriate treatments for their specific conditions.
"All of our services and therapies are offered as an adjunct to conventional medical treatments to enhance the continuum of care and improve quality of life options. We are pleased to be working with Oxford as the Siegler Center shares its commitment to offering patients a program that fosters collaboration between our staff and their physicians," said Adam Perlman, M.D., M.P.H., medical director of the Siegler Center.
Oxford members can access the Siegler Center"s full network of acupuncturists, massage therapists, nutritionists and yoga instructors using Oxford"s CAM contracted rate program. Through the contracted rate program, members select a participating provider, schedule an appointment and pay the provider a specially negotiated rate at the time of the visit. Access may vary by state and product. For more information about Oxford"s CAM program, members can visit www.oxfordhealth.com, or call customer service at 800-444-6222.
