Madrid, 26 July 2007.- Abengoa has signed the "Caring for Climate: The business leadership platform" statement, the latest proposal by the United Nations Global Compact that promotes the adoption of effective measures against climate change in corporate business strategies. Abengoa joins the group of fourteen Spanish companies that have signed the statement to date.
The "Caring for Climate: The business leadership platform" statement was presented at the last summit of leaders of the Global Compact held at the beginning of July in Geneva and chaired by Ban Ki Moon, the new United Nations Secretary General.
Abengoa is committed to increasing its efficiency in energy use and to reduce CO2 emissions as much as possible in all its activities, as well as reporting annually on its corresponding achievements along with the 152 other companies around the world that have signed the text. It will also integrate the appropriate measures in its business strategies to help the environment and it will attempt to reach agreements with its suppliers to promote standards that reduce environmental risks among them.
By taking on this new responsibility, Abengoa confirms its commitment to focusing its growth on the creation of new technologies that contribute to sustainable development.
