Mountain Coffee Roasters Opens New, $9 Million Distribution Center

WATERBURY, Vt.-- Sept. 1, 2004--Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMCR) celebrated a significant milestone in its growth today--the opening of a distribution center that will allow the Company to keep up with increasing consumer demand for a good cup of coffee. U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, Vermont Governor Jim Douglas, and Company CEO Bob Stiller were on hand to cut the ribbon at the new site in Waterbury, Vermont.

The new, 52,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center will mean Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has the room to increase its roasting capacity from 17 million pounds of coffee a year to 50 million pounds annually. The multi-level building cost $9 million to build and features state-of-the-art automation that is anticipated to increase efficiency and lower overall distribution costs in the long run.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters" former facility handled roasting, packaging, warehousing, and distribution under one roof. It was designed to handle 15 million pounds of roasted coffee, a level that was surpassed last year. The new distribution center is connected to the existing facility by an enclosed bridge, so freshly packaged coffee can travel from one side to the other on conveyor belts. Once inside the new distribution center, coffee is picked, packed, scanned and sorted with a fully integrated, automatic handling system. "We are very excited about our new distribution center, and we"re especially pleased with the teamwork and collaboration that allowed this major expansion to be completed on schedule," said Robert P. Stiller, CEO of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. "This building is critical to the success of our long-term growth plans and our commitment to providing extraordinary coffee to a broad array of customers."
