Starbucks Names Tony George Senior Vice President of Partner Resources For Starbucks Coffee International

SEATTLE--June 1, 2004--Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq:SBUX - News) announced today that Tony George has accepted the position of senior vice president, Partner Resources, Starbucks Coffee International. He plans to complete his immersion with Starbucks Coffee Company (UK) Limited this summer and assume his new role in the fall. Tony will report to Martin Coles, president, Starbucks Coffee International.

Tony brings extensive global Human Resources industry and leadership experience to Starbucks, along with his expertise in supporting the development of high-growth markets. In his previous role, Tony served as the senior vice president and chief Human Resources officer at Burger King International. He reported to the president of Burger King International and led Human Resources support for the company"s growing international region which currently includes 59 countries, 3,200 restaurants and 12,000 employees. Prior to that time, Tony spent 10 years in various senior international Human Resources and management positions with Diageo plc (former owners of Burger King Company) and also served in various management roles at ICI India, an international multi-brand consumer products company.

"Tony"s broad understanding of the quick service restaurant industry, combined with his experience in developing and expanding high-growth international markets, will be of great value to Starbucks as we continue to grow our presence in markets outside of the United States," said Coles.
