4.12.2003: Meldung: Wild Oats Donates Egyptian Theater Company

Wild Oats Markets, Inc. , a leading national natural and organic foods retailer, today announced it will donate $10,000 to the Egyptian Theater Company of Park City. The official grand opening of the store at 1748 West Redstone Center Drive, which is the first Wild Oats store to open in Summit County, will take place on Wednesday, December 3 at 8:45 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"The Egyptian Theater Company is considered one of the greatest cultural assets of Summit County," said Bob Steere, Executive Director, Egyptian Theater Company. "We are thrilled with Wild Oats"" $10,000 donation as it will permit us to continue the Youtheatre program and hire additional teachers, allowing more of Park City""s youth to participate."

As part of the Company""s mission to promote health and well-being among customers, employees, local communities and the environment, Wild Oats is providing funding for the Egyptian Theater Company to offer theatre classes for children ages 4 - 18. The grant will allow the Egyptian Theatre Company""s Youtheatre program to hire three new teachers, allowing 75 to 100 additional children to participate in the program over the next year.

"We strongly support this important community organization, which works to bring musical theatre, improvisation, creative drama and acting classes for children to the Park City community, and we believe our donation will provide a means for bringing together Park City residents in a positive way," said David Clark, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Wild Oats stores. "Wild Oats Markets is known for its community involvement and we look forward to many more partnerships to support the people of Summit County."

The official grand opening celebration begins at 8:45 a.m. on December 3, when local officials and Summit County Store Director Mark Regni will open the store to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The opening day festivities will continue with storewide samples and a giveaway of pre-selected free all-natural Wild Oats grocery products and canvas grocery bags for the first 250 customers through the door.

The December 3 grand opening celebration will kick-off several weeks of storewide samples, community support programs and various health-related store events.

The Wild Oats Natural Marketplace is a full-service specialty food store that features the highest quality natural, organic and gourmet food, dietary supplements, chemical-free household and body care products available. The company""s charitable giving programs will include four 5% Days each year, whereby 5 percent of the store""s total sales for the day are donated to a local nonprofit group. The first 5% Day for the Summit County Wild Oats store will be held on Monday, December 15, 2003 and will provide funds for the Egyptian Theater Company""s Youtheatre Teaching Scholarship Program. Additionally, to encourage recycling and reusing grocery bags, customers who bring their own bags to the store receive either a 5-cent refund or a Wooden Nickel for each bag, which is then donated to one of three local nonprofit groups. For the first six months the store is open, these donations will go to the Peace House, Swaner Nature Preserve and Friends of Animals.

About Egyptian Theater Company

Egyptian Theatre Company (ETC) is in residence at the historic Mary G. Steiner Egyptian Theatre in Park City. Built in 1926 shortly after the discovery of King Tutankhamen""s tomb, the Egyptian Theatre is a replica of Wamer""s Egyptian Theatre in Pasadena, Calif. and is one of only two Egyptian-revival buildings in Utah. The theatre was originally designed to accommodate "talkies" and traveling vaudeville shows. In 1981, Egyptian Theatre Company (then Park City Performances) converted it into a live theatre venue. In 1984, it was awarded a historic building designation by the Park City Centennial Commission and underwent a $1.5 million renovation in 1998.
