4.2.2006: Meldung: SatCon Technology announces strategic supply agreement

Boston, February 2006

SatCon Technology Corporation®, a developer and manufacturer of power electronics and motors for the alternative energy markets, has announced that it has entered into a strategic supply agreement and has received a purchase order from New Vision Technologies, an affiliate of Sun Edison, LLC, to initially deliver up to 10 megawatts of PowerGate(TM) photovoltaic inverters through the end of the year. Sun Edison has multiple photovoltaic projects around the U.S. already under contract and the 500kW inverter, recently unveiled by SatCon, is a particularly good fit to meet their demands for high efficiency power conversion.

Sun Edison, LLC, is a leader in the renewable energy development markets by simplifying solar development projects for public, private and nonprofit organizations. Sun Edison offers a finance and service model that allows customers to buy and use solar electricity generated at their facilities without capital investment. Sun Edison pays for, installs, owns and operates complete solar installations. Customers of Sun Edison agree to pay a fixed rate, at or below current electricity prices, for the solar electricity generated from these systems for a minimum of ten years.

"We are happy to partner with SatCon on our upcoming projects, as we have been very pleased with the quality and performance of the PowerGate(TM) inverter," commented Brian Jacolick, Sun Edison"s, partner. "This strategic relationship with SatCon will provide our customers with an integrated and reliable support structure for the inverters on their PV systems, which is crucial to the success of our business moving forward, as the inverter is a critical component of the overall system. Any improvements to system components support our larger goal of building more efficient, more cost-effective systems that create value for our customers."

The PowerGate(TM) photovoltaic inverter family is one of the most reliable and modern product lines available in the market. Since its commercial introduction in fiscal 2004, SatCon has shipped over 14 MW of units to customers around the world. The PowerGate(TM) inverter has been recognized by the California Energy Commission for having the highest average efficiencies for any commercial PV inverter currently on the market. SatCon"s launch of the PowerGate product line was in response to the growing demand for commercial grade inverters for the photovoltaic and fuel cell markets. SatCon"s inverters are also used in other alternative energy applications, such as wind turbines, plasma based converter systems, and advanced energy storage applications.

"We are very pleased to have been selected by Sun Edison as their strategic partner for photovoltaic inverters on their upcoming projects," stated Millard Firebaugh, SatCon"s President and Chief Operating Officer. "Our experience in providing commercial grade inverters combined with the timely release of the highest capacity, highest efficiency inverter in the photovoltaic marketplace positioned us to secure this important relationship. This relationship with Sun Edison will allow us to be more responsive to their project timelines and customers, and represents a "win-win" scenario for all parties. The timing of this agreement could not be any better in view of the emerging national consensus emphasizing the importance of solar energy as a contributor to energy independence for the United States."

The PowerGate(TM) AE-PV Series inverter is a commercial-grade product available in power ratings from 30kW to 500kW, and meets all requirements of UL1741 and IEEE1547, for grid-connected operation in low and medium voltage applications as single unit and parallel multi-megawatt systems. The PowerGate(TM) is a completely integrated package with all electrical and control system components pre-assembled and tested in a common enclosure. This minimizes installation time by reducing field wiring and site testing and greatly reduces the equipment footprint, while improving reliability of the system.
