Unit to Be Delivered to a Toronto-Based Bulk Reproduction Facility

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- March 3, 2003--SatCon Technology Corporation® (Nasdaq: SATC - News), a leader in power and energy management, today announced that it has received a purchase order from a Toronto based bulk reproduction facility for a 2.2-megawatt Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system. The system will provide "always-on" quality power to ensure that the customer"s production process is operational, even during electrical power fluctuations, outages or service interruptions. The unit is planned for delivery to the customer"s facility in late March with set-up due in April.

Commenting on the order, SatCon"s customer noted: "Our business relies on continuous high-quality power. The SatCon unit will give us a competitive advantage by protecting our facility from all utility anomalies. This will provide us with uninterrupted power to insure that processing is always under control and no product is lost or damaged due to any out of tolerance electricity from the utility grid."

"This is a significant order for us," said David Eisenhaure, SatCon"s president and chief executive officer. "We believe that our Rotary UPS systems represent a significant market opportunity for SatCon. For that reason, we have taken extra time to test and qualify our systems to make sure that our product meets our customer"s needs and will perform reliably. We believe we are at the point where we can confidently sell and deliver a quality reliable product to our customers. We anticipate that we will have additional orders for our 2.2-megawatt system in the near future."

SatCon"s rotary 2.2-megawatt UPS system performs the functions of both back up power and power quality conditioning. As a power quality conditioner and uninterruptible power source, it is designed to provide reliable, high quality power by constantly conditioning incoming power from the electric utility grid and acting as a substitute for the electric utility in the case of a power outage. As a back-up power source, when there is a power outage, the system instantaneously converts the energy stored in its flywheel to electricity, which powers the facility until an integral engine-generator starts or the utility power returns.
