Abengoa SA: Abener and Ghesa Andalucia join forces to develop renewable energy projects

Seville, May 19, 2008.- The engineering firms Abener Energía, which forms part of Abeinsa, Abengoa’s Industrial Engineering and Construction group, and Ghesa Andalucía have signed a strategic alliance through which they plan to undertake important renewable energy projects.

The agreement creates a new company, Abener Ghenova, which will provide basic and detailed engineering services for projects promoted by Abengoa, leaving open the possibility of signing contracts with external clients in the future.

Abener Ghenova, with its main offices in Seville, will begin by collaborating on the thermo-solar plant projects that Abener is currently promoting in Andalusia. In phase two, the business plan also includes the promotion of installations in the bio-fuel sector.

The project’s promoters agree that the experience contributed by both will allow them to assume a leading position in the engineering sector by developing innovative initiatives that promote sustainable development.

With this agreement, Abener Energía hopes to strengthen its position as one of the leading companies in solar energies and bio-fuels. It is currently immersed in the development of the world’s largest solar platform, with a capacity of 300 megawatts. This solar complex, located in Sanlúcar la Mayor, includes a total of nine thermosolar and photovoltaic plants, and will prevent the emission of 600,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. In bio-fuels, Abener is developing the largest bio-ethanol production plants in Europe, after its extensive experience in Spain, where it is the largest builder of this type of installations.

On its part, Ghesa Andalucía, which is completing the transformation of its corporate image, changing its name to Ghenova, after a management buy-out begun in 2006 in which it became a subsidiary of Ghesa Ingeniería y Tecnología, to become an independent engineering company headquartered in Seville, with work centers in Puerto Real, El Ferrol, and Cartagena, covering the Aeronautics, Naval, Industrial, and Civil sectors. With this alliance, which forms part of its strategic plan, it is also working to become one of the leading engineering companies in the renewable energy sector.

Abener Energía, which belongs to Abeinsa, the main company of Abengoa’s business group for Engineering and Industrial Construction, proportions integrated and innovative solutions in the field of energy by means of promotion, financial procurement, engineering, construction and exploitation of the new power and industrial stations and the optimization of the existing ones. All this inside a frame that contributes to a sustainable development, with a clear orientation towards the client and an efficient management of the projects.

Abener bets for reinforcing its leadership in the global market of "turn key" construction of power and industrial stations with special emphasis in biofuels and thermosolar areas.

Ghesa Andalucía began its activities in 1983, as an independent business unit within Ghesa Ingeniería y Tecnología; initial projects were focused on the field of civil works for the public administration. In 2006, Ghesa Andalucía set up on its own, as a new independent company: Ghesa Andalucía S.L. Today, Ghesa Andalucía is a leading company in its field, with broad international experience.

Ghesa Andalucía develop its activity in project and services previously mentioned, being our better quality the management and development of big projects of engineering.
