American Superconductor: Products to Chinese customer

American Superconductor Corporation, a leading energy technologies company, announced that its wholly owned subsidiary AMSC China start to ship products to Chinese customer directly. Till now, it has shipped more than 100 sets of core electrical components to Sinovel. These sets include a mix of PowerModule™ PM1000 converters and PowerModule™ PM3000W converters.
The first shipment from AMSC China represent that AMSC China has come to series production to meet the increasing China wind market. As one of AMSC’s manufacturing center, all products manufactured by AMSC China meet national and international quality standards, it has have passed ISO9001 and American Electric Standard, it also accepted by customer. According to its delivery plan, AMSC China will ship products to AMSC’s international customers.
AMSC’s core electrical components include the company’s proprietary PowerModule™ PM1000 and PowerModule™ PM3000W power converters and enable reliable, high-performance wind turbine operation by controlling power flows, regulating voltage, monitoring system performance and controlling the pitch of wind turbine blades to maximize efficiency. PowerModule™ PM1000 power converter was introduced to wind market in 2006. Introduced in late 2008, the PM3000W is a fully programmable, flexible and modular power converter developed specifically for wind turbines with power ratings up to 6 MW.
China’s wind industry continues to move forward at an aggressive pace through the global economic downturn. For meet the fast development of wind power, many local wind turbine manufacturers plan to enlarge their production scale. According to GWEC’s 2008 Global Installed Wind Power Capacity report, the increased installed wind power capacity is 6.3GW, the total capacity has reached 12.21GW.
Sinovel is the No. 1 in the increased wind power market in 2008. Sinovel was the 10th biggest wind turbine manufacturer in 2007.
Sinovel and AMSC WindtecTM first begin working in early 2006.
