Hansen Drives Ltd. ('Hansen Drives'), the Indian facility of global wind turbine gearbox maker Hansen Transmissions International ('Hansen Transmissions') announces it has received certification for international quality standard ISO 9001:2008 for its activities in Coimbatore. This has been achieved in just over a year, since the plant became operational in September 2008.*
Awarding body LRQA has certified Hansen Drives' wind turbine gearbox production, assembly, testing and service activities in Coimbatore for reaching ISO standard 9001:2008.
Hansen Drives operates a state of the art, fully integrated gearbox manufacturing facility dedicated to the wind turbine generator market, and employs approximately 350 people.
In terms of production, assembly, and testing, this entails operating sophisticated CNC machines, an in-house heat treatment facility and test rigs to test and validate gearboxes.
Preparation for certification took 12 months and was orchestrated by a core team of 15 people representing all functions.
Ivan Brems, CEO of Hansen Transmissions received the Certificate from G. Venkata Kuppuswamy, Assessment Manager, LRQA, South India during a ceremony held at the plant in Coimbatore on October 13th 2009.
Mohan NS, Executive Director, Hansen Drives stated: "We are very proud to receive certification indicating that we have reached this demanding international standard. Our team is now ready to service the Indian and international markets with Hansen Drives' world class products."
CEO Ivan Brems stated "I am extremely pleased to accept this certificate for our Indian production plant and very proud of the entire team in Coimbatore, which has put considerable effort into attaining the required standard. Hansen Drives is, after Hansen Transmissions' Belgian plants, the third Hansen Transmissions production facility to receive ISO 9001 certification. We have a strong tradition of attaining international standard certification; in 1991 our Belgian operations became the first in the Industrial gearbox industry to reach the ISO 9001 standard, and we have continued to focus on meeting further and improved certification criteria ever since."
