Abengoa to control Energy from the Hydraulic Station of Guapi, Colombia
Seville, July 13th 2006.- Instalaciones Inabensa, a company that belongs to Abeinsa, head of the Industrial Engineering and Construction Business Group of Abengoa, will develop for the Energy Generation, Transformation, and Distribution System turnkey project for the new Hydroelectrical Station (PCH) to be built in the Province of Guapi, located in Western Colombia, that will have a power capacity of 16 Megawatts, and supply electricity to a population of more than 80.000 inhabitants in three towns.
The Project, valuated in more than 47 Million Euros, will be developed by Abengoa for the "Fondo Financiero de Proyectos de Desarrollo, FONADE" (Financial Fund of Project for Development) -a body that depends on the Colombian Republic - 95% financed with FAD Credit resources signed by the Spanish Government in 2001. The rest of financing will be made with Colombian resources.
Abengoa will build the Hydroelectrical Generation System of 16 Megawatts, including an Energy Transformation System formed by three Electricity Sub-stations to be located at the Provinces of Guapi, Timbiquí and Iscuandé, apart from a Transmission System formed by two lines of 34.5 Kilowatts of 39 Km and 37 Km long each, to connect the Provinces of Guapi and Timbiquí.
As part of this project, Abengoa will build the access route to the towns of Cauca and Nariño in the Colombian Republic, apart from the study and design of the transmission lines for the interconnection of the towns El Charco, La Tola, Bocas Satinga and Morquera. Also, Electricity Distribution circuits will be installed at Camarones, Puerto Saija, Río Guaji, Zona de Limones and the towns adjacent to Guapi and Timbiquí.
According to Alfonso González Domínguez, President of Abeinsa, "this new contract reinforces our position in the Electricity Transport and Distribution market in Latin America, a region that has enjoyed a strong growth during the last year (84%). Also, with this new project, we will contribute to the supply of a high demand for Energy from the towns of Guapi, Timbiquí and Iscuandé, as part of the expansion plan that Abeinsa has developed for Latin American countries like Colombia".
Abengoa, with more than 4.000 professionals in Latin America and more than 30 years of experience in the region, develops its activities in the Energy, Installations, Telecommunications, Marketing and Industrial Manufacturing fields in countries like Uruguay, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, Colombia, Chile and Bolivia. Among the most relevant projects made by Abengoa in the region, we point out the Environmental Management System for the cooperation of the Cauca Valley in Santiago de Cali (Colombia), or the recently awarded project for the electrical interconnection of Central American Countries (Siepac), to interconnect Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
